[The video comes on to a man sitting on a beautifully upholstered couch, in an oddly but unarguably well decorated room. He doesn't smile; there's a faint frown between his brow. He sits very strait, and holds the communicator angled in his lap. His appearance is immaculate, tie straight, suit in order, not one dark hair out of place. And he gives the feeling that this is how he always dresses, that casual is not a word in his vocabulary.]

It seems a shame I've arrived in time to miss a vacation. I've never been to Los Angeles. I imagine it must be very inviting, especially after so much time spent here.

[Pleasantries out of the way, his frown deepens, pulls at the corner of his mouth as his brow furrows.]

My name is Garret Hobbs. I've not been here long, and I would appreciate whatever information you may be willing to impart.

[He wouldn't, not really; he's read a great deal, and he doubts he'll hear anything new. But he'll hear from the people who spoke to Abigail. He'll see who pays attention. And he'll hear from her.]

[Yep. Certainly is.]

David. And that rather depends on what you already know.

I know that the people aboard are inmates and wardens. I know that inmates must graduate in order to leave, and that there are occasional ports and more frequent floods. Perhaps you could begin there.

[secretasshole]

Wardens have chosen to be here in exchange for a deal. These bargains can be for almost anything a person could want or desire.

[You kind of don't sound like someone who would be a warden, so. Thank Abigail for blabbing. B(]

[He'll thank her for not blabbing completely. B(]

Almost. Is there a limit?

I don't know. I've never had the pleasure of communicating with the Admiral directly.

[youwill]

I did not think there would be many who'd call it a pleasure.

[secretasshole]

There aren't.

[youwill]

Why are you here, David?

[secretasshole]

I was decapitated during a scientific investigation of an alien planet, and the Admiral saw fit to bring me here. I have yet to have been given an adequate explanation as to why he intervened.

What were you investigating?

[secretasshole]

We were hoping to discover more about the beings that created mankind.

[youwill]

The beings?

[secretasshole]

The lead archaeologist called them "Engineers".

[youwill]

Did mankind not evolve on Earth, in your universe?

[secretasshole]

We have fairly conclusive evidence that they were designed.

[youwill]

Curious.

You found your engineers, I take it.

[secretasshole]

We did.

[youwill]

And what did they have to say?

[secretasshole]

Not much, I'm afraid.
